maps

I suggest you head to Gizmodo to see their full right up on this new app for Android 2.0 phones, but its absolutely incredible.

Using the google maps software, google has created a completely free app for turn by turn directions. Addresses or names of business can be input through text or voice and then you will be guided to your destination. Even cooler is that you can switch to street view while your going and can see the road in front of you as your traveling.

Most importantly, there is nothing in the iPhone app store like this for less than $50 per year and most are upwards of $100 per year. I don’t know if this app will ever come to the iPhone, but I want it.

Social gaming companies like Zynga, Playfish, and Playdom are making incredible amounts of money by creating games for facebook and myspace. These games, like Zynga’s Farmville (which has 61 million users), make most of their money through lead generation offers with companies like Netflix,Offerpal, and TrialPay. But not only are these games making a lot of money, they are also pretty fun and offer people yet another way to engage their friends.

An article at TechCrunch shows that Zynga is likely to go public in 2010, Playfish may already have sold to EA and Playdom has an estimagted worth of $60 million without raising any money to date. For more go to TechCrunch to see the full breakdown.

Chad Ochocinco is a twitter fanatic, it has actually gotten him in trouble with the Bengals and the NFL a few times, and he has even launched his own iPhone app. He has also been talking about flying twitter users out to games to watch him play. But now, he has gone one step further and saying that through a partnership with Motorola he will be launching a twitter news network called the Ochocinco News Network, with the slogan, “If I break it, you might as well believe it.”

Though there isn’t really much in the way of news yet, the supposed plan is that Ochocinco will provide other players with Motorola phones and have them break news before major networks find out and get the chance.

It is likely that this move by 8-5 will just piss off the NFL even more, but it will entertain and delight us (especially if it works).

key_art_hulu

As you can see right there in the picture, Hulu’s tag line tells us we can watch anytime for free. Well, soon this will no longer be the case. Hulu parent company NewsCorp has decided that sometime in 2010, Hulu will become a paid service. They stated that it is time to start getting paid for “broadcast content” that is viewed online. So it’s not like paying will get you and upgrade and let you watch your favorite new movies or HBO series, you won’t be able to watch much of anything on Hulu without paying. They promise that some things will remain free, but it is unlikely that any of the real TV shows we all use Hulu to watch will be free. So its back to searching the internet or downloading shows illegally for most people, sad to say Hulu but now you suck.

Set for release in November, the New Super Mario Bros Wii is the next Mario game set to be released by Nintendo. It is a class side scrolling style game that follows the New Super Mario Bros for the DS. It is also the first game in the classic Mario series since Mario Bros. to feature simultaneous multiplayer game play.

According to Miyamoto, this game is going to be a bit of a challenge so it should occupy the hardcore Mario gamer and not just the casual fan. Saving Princess Peach from Bowser should be pretty challenging this time. It will also be a bit more fun since you can do it as Mario, Luigi, or a Toad character. Look for this classic style Mario game, I’ve been playing Mario since I first got a NES and I will definitely be giving this one a shot.

According to Wired, In-Q-Tel, the technology division of the CIA, recently invested an undisclosed amount of money in Visible Technologies. Visible Technologies is a firm that does social media monitoring for major companies including Microsoft, Dell, and Verizon.

Wired tells us that this is part of a movement to better incorporate publicly available information that is often hidden into their intelligence gathering. With the CIA coming into the game it should be clear that the power of social media isn’t going away any time soon. So careful what you tweet because now the CIA is reading it all.
